It must be a unicum – for the first time. A game has sprung from a song. And not just any song – but a major hit single from 1984 (Glenn Frey’s single, used as a soundtrack for the Beverly Hills Cop movie), with the same title. The Heat is On slot machine created by MahiGaming Studio and powered by Microgaming had the primary aim to achieve the same fame as the original song just some 33 years later – in 2017.

Detailed review about The Heat is On Slot

The Heat is OnExactly as the lyrics are bolstered by music’s ability to influence emotion, you can feel the pressure and the burning from the action on the reels by the gameplay.

The slot introduces a naughty devilish-seductive Lady Thief, naturally, as a beguiling Police Woman and all kinds of crime/robbery/pursue/thriller attributes: big bank building, gold bars and dynamite for blowing up the vault, fast chasing cars, escape motors and following from up above helicopters.

Technically this is a 45 win ways machine with a typical layout (5×3), Low-Medium Volatility and RTP of 96.01%. Unlike real-life heists here, you know in advance the exact amount in the vault of this slot – it holds a maximum of 312 500 coins.

If you want to take part in the action, you can start by launching the game straight from the link on our site. It is free and without registration.

Personal testers’ opinion about The Heat is On slot

  • We found The Heat is On slot machine having corny symbols, dated graphics and stereotype gameplay. But we are all here to win, so the design is not always that important. We do have to take the statistical numbers for the game into consideration, of course.
  • The hit probability is over 35%, which is higher than usual, but we figured out almost all wins are not considered during testing. Our max win was only around 122x the total bet, and that was 1 atypical big reward. The bloated number of Free Spins and their frequent appearance (every 75-78th spin) is all that matters “when all the chips are down.” As the paytable is damn cheap: from 20x to 1x the total bet for all symbols when 5OAK are on a payline, plus Wilds that don’t double when substitute, Scatters that pay ridiculously low, and no multipliers in both – base game and bonus round. Admittedly, the Wilds appear regularly and stacked (taking the entire reel). Still, even 2 entire reels deliver a prize ranging between 2x to 12x the total bet, i.e. not sufficient to preserve the balance for a long session.

Altogether, this is 1 unexceptional machine, which is seldom capable of issuing massive rewards and not the best for wagering the bonus money. For that purpose, there are other more suitable slots from Microgaming – like Peek a Boo slot (2015) or Robin of Sherwood slot (2018). We will leave neutral recommendations for all purposes and types of players.

There is a whole line of reskins of this math model. But, astonishing for us, Microgaming gave the same project to 3 of their partner companies simultaneously, and all 3 delivered the below-mentioned slots in 2017. We may not like such practices and criticize them endlessly, but there’s bugger all we can do about it!

Bonus Features

  • Lady Thief and the Police Woman – are both Wild symbols. They are paid (only 20x the total bet for 5OAK) and substitute all other symbols except each other and Bank Scatters. Mixed Wilds pay half (10x the total bet).
  • Free Spins – Landing 3 Bank Scatters (paid, but close to nothing – for 7OAK only 3x the total bet!) on the first 3 adjacent reels will yield 5 Free Spins. 4 or 5 Scatters deliver 10 and 20 Free Spins respectively. Landing 2 Banks on reel 3 will double the amount of Free Spins you had to begin with. Landing 2 Scatters on reel 2, plus 2 Scatters on reel 3 at once will quadruple the number of Free Spins you started with, and on top of that, they can be re-triggered. Thus, receiving 80 Free Spins in a single spin is pretty much achievable.
