Just like in the enchanting animated movie, the key plot revolves around turning everything into ice, crystals and snow, here too, it is all about the icy snowflake ring (Scatter) that gives you the passage to the Bonus round. Simple and easy, like any bedtime story (perhaps even too easy for some players), the slot reveals no sensational features or massive wins in the base game, just Stacks of the top-value symbol. Plus, there is only 1 feature in the Bonus – the Sticky Wilds.
During testing, we had determined that there is no long waiting for the FS, and despite the hefty 50 cent bottom bet (burdensome for the low rollers), the slot nicely supports the balance. In our internal game lab, we had established that the Snow Queen‘s hit frequency is 34%, the game demonstrates Low Volatility, and as far as our trial sessions are representative, the slot delivers satisfying returns (RTP of 96%).
The maximum prospect of this frosty fairy-tale on reels we calculate as 2000x the bet, but not in a single spin, but rather as a total of the Bonus (via a series of Sticky Wilds and top symbols).
Several stumbling blocks, which are difficult to overcome, should be mentioned here:
- There is no actual technical data from the Studio developer (all stats in this review are based on our internal analysis).
- The paytable is extremely skimpy (even lower than most of the MegaWays games). All regular symbols pay between 4x and 2x the total bet for 5OAK on a payline.
- Although 4 of the standard paying symbols have value also for 2OAK, only the top symbol – the orange princess can come Stacked.
- Both types of Wilds have no value on their own.
- The Scatters don’t bring much to the paytable – they only have a small consolation prize of 8x the bet for 3OAK.
- The number of FS in the Bonus is always 10.
- The Bonus can be extended with just 5 FS, which is not really a re-trigger but a “half-hearted spur”.
- There are no Multipliers, Mini-games or Jackpots to take the winnings to an actually high level.
Considering all the ins and outs, the Snow Queen slot can be an option for starters as it comes with basic rules, reduced risk and light gameplay. But more experienced gamblers will be averted by the many disadvantages (we have named above), especially the poor paytable, where not a single value can meet players’ desires. We are not convinced that a serious balance increase can be achieved here, therefore we can only leave neutral recommendations for sessions with real money, as well as with bonus money.
